Định nghĩa câu chẻ trong tiếng Anh Cấu trúc câu chẻ Cleft Sentences là dạng câu thường được sử dụng phổ biến với chức năng nhấn mạnh vào một thành phần nhất định trong câu như chủ ngữ, tân ngữ hay trạng từ, hay có thể là một sự việc, đối tượng đáng chú ý nào đó trong câu… Câu chẻ hay câu nhấn mạnh là một dạng câu ghép bao gồm mệnh đề chính và mệnh đề phụ thuộc kết hợp kèm các đại từ quan hệ. Nhấn mạnh trạng ngữ thời gian, nơi chốn, cách thức, lý do, … Không chỉ được sử dụng nhiều trong văn nói và viết, cấu trúc câu chẻ cũng rất thịnh hành trong các lời bài hát. Nhấn mạnh trong câu bị động Cũng giống như câu bị động trong tiếng Anh, cấu trúc câu chẻ nhấn mạnh trong câu bị động vẫn tuân thủ quy tắc chia động từ ở dạng bị động, và đưa vật hoặc người cần nhấn mạnh lên đầu. Cấu trúc It + is / was + Noun chỉ vật + that + be + V3/V-ed past participle It + is / was + Noun/pronoun chỉ người + who + be + V3/V-ed past participle Ví dụ People usually discuss this topic. => It is this topic that is usually discussed. Cấu trúc câu chẻ nhấn mạnh với “What” Khác với loại cấu trúc “It+be”, đây là loại câu câu chẻ đặc biệt khi thông tin cần nhấn mạnh thường được đặt ở cuối. Mệnh đề “what” được đặt ở đầu câu và hay trong một số trường hợp khác là các đại từ quan hệ như “where”, “why” hay “how”. Bởi những đặc trưng riêng về vị trí từ loại, cách tạo thành cấu trúc câu chẻ trong tiếng Anh với “what” cũng có nhiều khác biệt hơn.
